Apple Cage Match - iPad Vs iPhone and iPod Touch

Many people consider the iPad a bigger version of the iPhone or iPod Touch, and admittedly there is overlap in functionality. But I don't see Apple purposely making a product that directly competes with their iPhone and iPod cash cows. With that in mind, let's look at where these devices will cross paths and which one has an advantage.

Convenience

Since the iPhone is you know, a phone, it will often never leave your side. It rules as a go to device when you need to get access to something right this second. The iPad's size while svelt, won't exactly fit in your pocket. While more convenient to drag around than say a laptop, the iPad won't replace the iPhone as the go to device when needing to know the population of Kazastan during a conversation, or an replace an iPod when working out at the gym.

Usability

While the iPhone has greatly improved, if not reinvented, the user experience for a smart phone, the screen is only so big. I have tried using the iPhone as a ebook reader and personal video device and I can only stand the eye strain for so long. Even viewing webpages for any extended period of time can become bothersome on an iPhone or iPad Touch. The iPad's 9.7 inch screen, nearly 4 times larger, will allow for much more pleasant extended viewing sessions. The larger screen will also allows us fat fingered types to navigate apps easier and allow developers more screen space to display data.

Cost

Compared to a $99 iPhone or a $199 iPod Touch, the $499 for the 16GB iPad may seem steep. But we must remember the the iPhone price is subsidized by At&T and requires a 2 year contract to get that price. Also the $199 iPod Touch is only an 8GB model, the 32GB will cost you $299. Given Steve Job's statement of the iPad being positioned between the iPhone and the MacBook in Apple's product line up, we should also compare the iPad's price to the $999 cost of an entry level MacBook. While not exactly cheap, $499 for a 16GB iPad isn't unreasonable.

Apps

Since the iPad will run nearly all iPhone and iPod Touch apps, there will not be a lack of applications at launch time. If you already have a large library of apps in iTunes, you will be able to use these on an iPad without repurchasing. The iBook Store and iBook app will be limited to the iPad, and as developers come on board, exclusive iPad only apps will begin to appear. The price premium for an iPad optimized app is still unknown, but I would not be surprised to see an average price of $4.99.

Final Thoughts

Will the iPad cannibalize sales of other Apple products? For those who do not currently own an iPod Touch, or don't/can't get an iPhone, investing instead in an iPad could be a logical move. But since you won't be jogging with your iPad to listen to music, or answering phone calls with it, I don't see sales of iPhones and iPods being affected much. I will be very curious to see the numbers on people who bought an iPad and also own an iPhone or iPod Touch versus those that don't.

10 Facts About the iPad

1. The iPad was going to be called the iBook and be like an ebook reader but apple changed it to make it more like an iPhone.

2. The iPad's design is based on the iPhone and the iPhone's design is based on the monolith from 2001: a Space Odyssey.

3. The average cost of an app is $1.99. But it takes an average of 4 weeks to make one and sell it.

4. The most used app on the iPad is safari and the most visited website is apple.com.

5. The iPad can use almost all of the iPhone's apps.

6. The 3G version costs an extra $130 and is locked to AT&T. There are two options 250MB for $14.99 a month or 2GB for $25 a month. IT is a monthly contract which is very good because nobody wants to be signed up to a 12-18 month contract.

6. More Than 1 million apps were downloaded to iPads on the first day.

7. You can sync your iPod touch or iPhone with your iPad. Personally I do not think this is very useful because I can not see why somebody would get an iPad if they had an iPod touch or an iPhone

8. The iPad has a 9.7 inch screen (about the same size as a piece of A4 paper), weighs less than a kilogram, maximum battery life of ten hours, the battery is built in so it can not be replaced and the maximum amount of memory is 64GB.

9. The iPad does not support flash. Most videos and games on the internet are flash so this is quite a big problem for the iPad. However if you jailbreak it flash is supported.

10. Prices start from $499 for a 16GB wifi and go up to $829 for an iPad 3g 64gb

However money is no object for the iPad because you can get one for free. Go to http://www.simplyfreeipad.co.uk to get your Free iPad. This is not one of those "test an iPad and keep it" websites you can get a completely free iPad if you follow the steps shown.

How to Use Community Involvement to Differentiate Your iPhone Game

With over 160,000 downloads available at the iTunes app store, differentiating your game from the competition is clearly a significant task facing any developer. Many of the offerings in the app store are either faithful versions of old classics or re-imagined experiences featuring beloved characters. Faced with the absolute glut of available games and the seemingly insurmountable obstacle of built in name recognition for these classic games, it can be difficult for a new game to stand out from the pack. In this article we will examine a couple of ways in which an unknown development company can help differentiate their game through the use of the community.

Leverage the community from the inside and out - For the last couple of years, the buzz of the internet has surrounded the power of the community and the leveraging of user generated content. In devising a strategy for differentiating an iPhone game, a strong focus should be placed on these areas. The iPhone game Ocarina opened a lot of eyes with its use of community via its World View feature. Using the World View feature in Ocarina users may to sit in on the game session of any Ocarina player worldwide and listen to them as they play their virtual instrument. Much of the popularity of Ocarina can be directly attributed to this feature, as some users leave the World View mode running and use it as a sort of jukebox. This feature also inspires Ocarina players to practice more, so as to provide a more enjoyable experience to their viewers. There even exists an entire online community dedicated to creating and sharing sheet music for play on the Ocarina platform.

Another way to leverage community involvement is by getting them in on the process of game development. With the advanced tools that many iPhone games are developed with, there is often the option to tweak those tools into a format that users themselves can work with. These level editors and content generation tools can be a crucial aspect of developer and customer relationships because they inspire the user to become a part of the game's community and allow them to actively contribute to the game experience. In many cases these user generated levels are sold as extensions to the game through the publisher's own website, providing monetary reward to the individual and developer. Those who get involved in these programs often become outspoken product evangelists, who try to convert users to their game of choice so they can experience the content they have generated and participate in the process.

When users are able to interact with each other and the game itself on anything other than the most basic of levels, their level of involvement advances from a passive to an active one. It is in this active state of involvement that differentiation is achieved, and a real and long lasting connection can be made between the consumer and the development company.

Top Free iPhone Games

The Apple iPhone was a revolutionary device when it was released in June of 2007, and it is still arguably the best phone on the market today. One aspect of the iPhone which is surprising to many people is the robustness of its portable gaming capabilities. With its full multi-touch display, its "accelerometer" which can detect which way the device is being held and moved, and 3D graphics, the iPhone has proven itself to be a major competitor to both Sony and Nintendo in the portable gaming market.

There are tens of thousands of free games in Apple's App Store, but most of them are either really bad, or they are merely "demo" games of a higher priced paid version. However, there are definitely some real gems if you are willing to mine for them. Here are some of the top free iPhone games to help get you started.

1. Tap Tap Revenge II

If you've ever watched someone play Guitar Hero, then you know the basic concept of this game. Instead of a guitar, you "tap" on the screen to the beat of your favorite music. You can rack up a high score by tapping many notes in a row without missing any.

2. Sol Free Solitaire

This is a simple solitaire game like you might find on your Windows PC. Actually, there are many solitaire games like this one on the iPhone, but Sol Free Solitaire stands head and shoulders above the rest. The graphics are clear and crisp, and the cards are extremely responsive to the touch of your finger as you drag them from pile to pile.

3. Real Racing GTi

Real Racing GTi is a full-fledged arcade racing game which several years ago could only be found in a mall arcade or on a home console. The graphics are top-notch and realistic, and the smooth controls lets you feel like you are really in a race car. There are three game modes: quick race, time trial, and cup championship. This is undoubtedly the best arcade racer on the iPhone.

4. Chess with Friends / Words with Friends

These are two games from a company called NewToy. What makes these games unique is that they can be played over any length of time. Chess with Friends is (obviously) a chess game, and Words with Friends is a variant of Scrabble. After you make your move, you can turn the game off and go about your daily business. When your friend has made their move - hours or days later - you can open the game and make your next move. Simple gameplay, elegant graphics, and their inherent social nature have made these games extremely popular.

5. TapDefense

This is a popular game in the "tower defense" game genre. Tower defense games have become popular as simple online games. A swarm of enemies come out of an entrance and head in a line toward an exit which you must defend by constructing a series of towers to defend the exit. Although there are a multitude of games like this in the App Store, TapDefense is unique because it is not only top-notch, but also free.

6. iBowl

This is another social game. If you've ever played bowling on the Nintendo Wii with your friends, then you might be able to imagine what this game is all about. You throw your bowling ball by literally swinging your arm, and the iPhone tracks your arm's movement. Your friend across town (or across the world) can watch your ball roll down the lane, and then they can take their turn. It's a fun and competitive game for people who like to play games without pushing a lot of buttons.

There are even more great games for the iPhone if you are willing to pay a few dollars. Most of the best games on the iPhone aren't free, but the above few are. The iPhone has given users not only the ability to play games which have previously been impossible to develop, but it has also given them the ability to download quite a few of those games for free. It will be interesting to see what new games are developed for the iPhone in the next few years. These games are all also available if you buy the iPad or the iPod Touch. Head over to http://www.buyipadonline.com for more tips and deals on Apple products.

How to Control Your Christmas Tree Lights With an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

Controlling the Christmas tree lights with your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is easier than you think. You can set this up in a few hours and then dazzle your family and friends as you turn the lights on and off from the comfort of the couch.

It is important to realize, however, that there is no magical iPhone app that can independently control your lights. An iPhone app can communicate with a control network, which in turn can control the lights. In other words, you will need to set up a control network, hook up your Christmas tree lights to that network, and then use an iPhone app to control that network.

A control network can manage your Christmas tree lights, but it can do much more. Once you have that network in place, you can use it for all sorts of other things. For example, a control network can be used to automate any of the lights in your home, lock your doors, manage your thermostat and program appliances to run at certain times.

You can set up a basic control network for as little as $125. You can then add on a module to control your tree lights for about $50. One of the most affordable control networks is the Smarthome Insteon SmartLinc.

An Insteon home control network is easy to set up. It involves plugging a SmartLinc controller into an outlet, and then attaching that controller to your home router. You will then use a simple web-based wizard to configure your control network. It is important to note that this solution requires you to already have a wi-fi network in place.

At your Christmas tree, you will plug the lights into a plug-in module called the Insteon LampLinc. You also need to connect the LampLinc to your control network, which you can do in a few minutes following easy-to-use instructions.

Once you have connected the LampLinc module to your network, you will be able to control your lights with the web browser on your iOS device. You will be able to turn lights on and off, or you will be able to program them for certain times. Instead of using the web browser, however, you may choose to purchase a specific iPhone or iPad app for controlling your lights. "Home Guru" is one app available on the iTunes Store that is particularly good for controlling lights.

Controlling your tree lights with an iPhone will certainly impress everyone. However, having your lights go on and off automatically is probably a bigger advantage. This way, your lights can be on as you come home from work. It also means that you do not have to think about turning them off at night.

This article provides a quick overview of how you can control your Christmas tree lights with an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

For more detailed instructions on how to control your Christmas tree lights with an iPhone, visit the Digital Homes website.

Fast iPad Repair for You

The Apple iPad has stormed onto the scene, and most people would be hard-pressed to name just one other tablet device that preceded it.  In fact, even today, the Apple iPad has dominated the market, and anyone else trying to gain a foothold  in that space is looking up at Mount Everest.

Because of the huge demand for the iPad (3G or WIFI), Apple is able to charge a higher amount for their products.

As a downside, this makes repairing a broken Apple iPad all the more realistic, because often getting an iPad fixed is going to be cheaper than tossing it out and buying a new one.

Sites can be found on the net that perform iPad repairs, but you have to make sure you find a company like refresh-repair.com (located at www.ipodrefresh.com) who is familiar with the Apple iPad and who can complete the repair in a timely manner and in a way that makes the device look like brand new again.

One interesting thing about the iPad is that, if the screen breaks, sometimes the soft aluminum body can get dented, too.  This can make it challenging to put the device back together again with new digitizer screen, but if your iPad repair crew has it together, they can surmount that issue as well and make the iPad look like brand new again.

How to Check Your Verizon iPhone Eligibility

The Verizon iPhone has been announced, and if you’re one of the millions that is probably planning on buying one, you can now check your contract eligibility. Among other things, the Verizon iPhone has a new antenna. This should make call reliability much better with the iPhone on Verizon’s network.

If you are a current Verizon wireless customer, Apple has posted a page where you can check your contract eligibility for an upgrade. Verizon also has an eligibility page for customers to check their contracts as well…

Apple also has a page where you can sign up to be notified of when pre-orders begin.

If you look around on Verizon’s new iPhone promotion page, there’s an interesting window that displays the iPhone capacity and colors.

There is a white iPhone 4 included on this page. Who knows if this is legit or a mistake, but I guess we’ll find out when pre-orders start on February 3rd.

Do you think the white iPhone will be available on Verizon?

Fix: Safari Cannot Open the Page Because It is Not Connected to the Internet

For some reason my iPhone has been going nuts lately. It seems that anytime I reboot it, turn airplane mode on/off, or simply change location by driving a few miles, I lose my 3G data connection.

The most obvious symptom is when I launch Safari, which tells me it cannot open the page and displays this error message: Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet. A similar message shows up if I try to check emails for example. The issue only appears when I’m on 3G.

I’ve had this problem for a few weeks now and needless to say it’s pretty annoying. Fortunately, there is a simple fix for it…

The fix is pretty obvious and I’ve known about it for a while, but for some reason I didn’t think about applying it.

To stop this, simply go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Your iPhone will reboot and you should now be able to connect to the Internet via 3G.

I’m not really sure what’s causing the problem but I guess UltraSn0w is part responsible for it. It seems this issue first came up when I started traveling internationally with my iPhone 4 and using local carriers. I have no proof that could back up my guess though.

If you have a similar issue, I hope this quick and simple fix will do the trick for you.

Most Wanted Mobile Device for the 2010 Holidays: iPhone 4

The most popular mobile device on the market that is on everyone’s wishlist for the holiday season is the Apple iPhone 4. The fourth generation in the iPhone family, the iPhone 4 as everything a mobile users wants in a smartphone: 3G broadband Internet, a MP3 player with iPod functionality, video recording in HD, millions of apps to choose from to extend the iPhone to the next level.

The iPhone 4 introduces a few new features compared the the previous iPhone 3 and 3GS. The iPhone 4 is touted for having the popular Retina Display for the best screen quality on a phone in the market. Compared to the previous models, the Retina Display eliminates pixels from the screen and making reading text easy on the eyes, even in full sunlight.

Another new feature on the iPhone 4 is the FaceTime application. With FaceTime, an iPhone 4 user can participate with other users in a video conference using the iPhone 4's new frontal camera. Unlike third-party apps that support video conferencing, FaceTime is only available on a Wi-Fi connection, but it does not stop the fun of FaceTime.

The biggest feature of the iPhone 4 is in fact a most requested feature since the release of the first iPhone is the ability to switch between applications. With the new iOS 4 iPhone operating system, apps can be switched back and fourth: whether it is leaving a game to read an important e-mail, or changing the song on a music app to reading the latest headlines in another app, it can now be done.

With all these exciting features, it is obvious to see why the iPhone 4 is the hottest item for Christmas. Buying a iPhone 4 for that special someone can be the best gift of the year, if not ever, especially for smartphone and technology enthusiasts.

Jailbreak and Unlock Coming to the Verizon iPhone?

One of the first questions that might have come to your mind after the announcement of the Verizon iPhone this morning probably was: can you jailbreak the Verizon iPhone? Can you unlock it? That’s something we obviously can’t know for sure until our favorite Team of iPhone hackers get their hands on one of those babies.

However, I would assume that the jailbreaking process for the Verizon iPhone might not be different from AT&T’s. I assume the iOS loaded will have the very same backbones, even though iOS for Verizon will include extra features such as the ability to use your iPhone as a hotspot…

Something tells me if there is an exploit to be found, the exploit will be present in both versions of iOS.

Now regarding the Verizon iPhone unlock, I think it’s a completely different story. The basebands will be completely different and seeing how CDMA is not nearly as popular as GSM, I think the Dev Team will focus on the latter.

But again, we won’t know for sure until the Verizon iPhone comes out.

Exciting Features of the New iPad 2

With the new iPad 2 being shipped in February 2011, everyone’s wondering about the great new features that the iPad 2 will have. Once you read about what the iPad 2 offers, you will be at your nearest electronics store waiting to pre-order!

The current Apple iPhone enjoys Apple’s Retina Display. The Retina Display is a crisp, vibrant, high-definition screen that beats all other screens available today. The current iPad lacks the Retina Display, and it’s a great possibility that the iPad 2 will have a Retina Display. With a clearer display, people are sure to choose the iPad over competing models with lower screen quality.

Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple, is known for claiming that the next iPad will be released before competitors have even caught up to the currently existing model. It’s rumored that the new iPad will offer a 7 inch screen size in addition to the current 9 inch screen size. This new screen size offers greater portability and also provides an opportunity for a lower-cost iPad. This opens the iPad market to more consumers who may not be able to afford the larger iPad.

FaceTime is another one of Apple’s great innovations. It’s currently available on the iPhone, Mac, and iPod Touch. FaceTime allows you to call anyone over WiFi and connect with them face to face. This addition would put the iPad on the same level as other Apple products and crush the competition.

With these great features, the iPad 2 will thrill consumers and blow away competitors.

How to Add New Sources to Cydia

Cydia, the jailbreak equivalent of Apple’s App Store, indexes all jailbreak apps/tweaks/mods so that users can easily find them on the iPhone. To have Cydia on your iPhone, you must first jailbreak. This process frees you from having to only download apps from Apple’s App Store. Once you jailbreak, you can install all kinds of cool apps, mods and tweaks on your iPhone through Cydia.

Instead of Apple’s curated content, Cydia must rely on “repositories” from jailbreak developers to index jailbreak apps. These “repositories” (or “repos”) are basically just storage houses for jailbreak content that developers want to distribute through Cydia. Repositories are sources that Cydia searches for jailbreak apps.

By default, Cydia already pre-installs some popular repositories that host most jailbreak content. However, there is a way in Cydia to add more sources. Not all jailbreak content can be accessed through the default sources that Cydia pre-installs. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to add a new source to expand your jailbreak catalog in Cydia…

You will now be presented with a list of all the sources that Cydia is currently using to search for apps. If you have never added a source on your own before, you will only see a list of sources called “Installed by Package.” These popular sources include jailbreak heavyweights like BigBoss and ModMyi.

You will now be prompted with a window that says “Enter Cydia/APT URL.”

Make sure to get the website spelling correct or Cydia will not be able to verify the source.

Cydia will update and verify your added source.

Your new source will now be available under a list called “Entered by User” in the Sources list of Cydia. You can tap on any source to view all of the content that the source provides. This method could help you narrow down your search for the app you want if the general search in Cydia isn’t getting you anywhere.

Once you add a new source, all of the content that source hosts will be available for you to install on your iPhone (providing you have the right hardware and firmware). ?You can browse optional sources within Cydia itself. If you go to the home page of Cydia, you will see the option to view “More Package Sources.” This option will show you a list of optional repos you can install for access in Cydia.

iDB also has a pretty robust collection of Cydia sources that you can check out. One way or another, there are plenty of ways to get more jailbreak content on your iPhone.

Do you have a favorite Cydia repo? Do you find yourself downloading from a certain source often?

Streaming Netflix: Great for Watching Movies, Hulu Plus: Not So Great…

When my college sorority decided to buy Netflix for the house, it was the best decision ever made. Watching movies on this website is much more dependable than watching movies at websites like Hulu plus. When watching movies on mobile devices, it is important that a movie contain no interruptions and flow as smoothly as possible.

Nothing is more frustrating than watching a movie filled with advertisements. On Hulu plus, it seems every movie is filled with advertisements. Even more frustrating, sometimes the quality of films on Hulu plus is choppy. On Netflix, movies are always high-quality and contain no choppiness. I like that I can depend on certain sites for movies that will give me the true “theatre” experience in the comfort of my own home.

For people that are looking for a dependable way to watch movies on mobile devices, Netflix is truly the answer. For college students especially, this will be a choice one never regrets! It is simply the best decision my sorority ever made and we enjoy watching movies on this site so much.

Xbox 360 Still King of the Shooters. Here’s our Top 5 Games

In the best tradition of the beholder’s eye, here are my picks for the top 5 games for the Xbox:

1. Red Dead Redemption. Saddle up, pilgrim, it’s time to bring some justice back to the Old West. This free roaming third person shooter puts you in Clint Eastwood’s shoes as John Marston, outlaw turned hero in the American Old West that should have been, and perhaps only ever existed for Hollywood.

2. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. A shooter with heavy RPG elements is still a shooter, but Lucas Arts did it right with all the trappings and rich back story of the Star Wars universe. Lightsabers, the Force, droids, and an unmatched hive of scum and villainy put you in the action in a world where Greedo never would have got the chance to shoot first.

3. Lego Harry Potter: Okay, so waving a wand and blasting little Lego people into their component bricks isn’t exactly a shooter. But this latest entry in the Lego series of licensed games brings its own twist to the addictive puzzle and platform formula that made Legos Batman, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars so captivating. And its funny; famous scenes from the movies done up in silent movie Legos? Priceless.

4. Halo: Reach. Halo is unquestionably the game that established the bar for every other Xbox shooter to target, and the new entry in the series is no exception. It makes the most of that Xbox Live connection to put you and your buddies into the hot zone with a whole new set of rules, toys, and customizations that are guaranteed to keep your guns blazing.

5. Bioshock. This is one to watch, with the combination of intriguing gameplay and immersive storyline. The sheer variety of tasks puts you in a world where I just want to keep exploring the possibilities of one more upgrade, and the challenge of hacking another odd computer. Just because I can.

No coincidence that shooters form the core of my top Xbox games. The fast pace and frenetic action fuel my adrenaline like unfiltered caffeine!

The Apple iPad – Bringing Tablets into the Mainstream

For a good, long while, many people believed that tablet technology was on its way out. After all, tablets have – in various different incarnations – been around for years, yet they never seemed to fully take off on the market. Today, it is believed that Apple’s iPad may have saved the technology, ushering in a whole new era for tablets. The iPad has been met with a surprising amount of acclaim, and has so far been quite a success for Apple.

Experts believe that, due to the success of the iPad, other technology giants such as Microsoft and Sony will be bringing new, advanced tablets to the market in the near future. One thing is for sure – this dying technology is currently enjoying a revival like no other.

Sweet! Advantages of the Samsung Galaxy Tab

Due to Apple’s resounding success with its iPad, electronics makers have been scrambling to get their feet into the doors of the tablet market. The Galaxy Tab represents Samsung’s foray into the sector and offers functionality and style wrapped up into one attractive offering. Upon initial inspection, one notices that the Galaxy Tab is significantly smaller in size and weight than its Apple counterpart. But, even though it is small in stature, the device packs quite a punch.

For many people, the smaller size of the Galaxy Tab will be an advantage over the iPad. The tablet will certainly not fit into a person’s pocket, but it is easily more portable and lighter to carry than the iPad. People who are on the go a lot will appreciate this fact after toting it around for a while.

At its heart, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is powered by a 1 GHz processor, which is more than enough to run the latest apps. Also, the tablet runs on Google’s mobile operating system called Android 2.2, or Froyo. One advantage of running the Android operating system is that the Galaxy Tab has phone capabilities unlike the iPad. In addition, the Galaxy Tab also supports Flash Player, allowing users to play flash movies, which cannot be done on an iPad without jail breaking it.

Another advantage that the Samsung Galaxy has over the iPad is that it has two built in cameras. The Galaxy has a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera as well as a 3 megapixel rear camera that is self focusing. The rear camera also has an LED flash. In comparison, the iPad does not have a built in camera, instead requiring owners to buy a separate attachment.

AT&T Users Have No Reason to Envy Verizon’s iPhone

After many years, months, and days of hardcore speculation, the details about America’s worst kept secret are at last out of the bag. Underwhelming as it was, today’s Verizon press event functioned like more of a low key gathering when compared to the Steve Jobs driven spectacles that Apple puts on.

The differences between the two companies press unveilings aptly foreshadowed how underwhelmed I came away feeling when the event was all said and done.

Granted, I understand that this wasn’t your typical Apple announcement and Verizon never perpetuated that it was. Still, I can’t help but feel like I got a small fry when I specifically asked for a large…

As a semi-disgruntled AT&T user, I relished the thought of another carrier swooping in and offering some stiff competition; maybe even a full on onslaught led by faster network capabilities. Instead all we were left with was the same product that we’ve been using for the last six months.

Oddly enough, Verizon’s offering is the inferior offering when it comes to network capabilities. Being that it is completely CDMA based, there will be no simultaneous data and voice usage, a fact that AT&T has already tee’d off on, and will most certainly focus on even more, now that Verizon has stepped into its territory.

On a good note, it’s likely that the subtle design changes of Verizon’s iPhone 4 will remedy the antenna issues suffered by the original iPhone 4; that should be comforting to the small percentage of you who actually suffer real world issues from the antenna.

For the rest of us, though, the Verizon iPhone is the envy of no one. It can’t do simultaneous data and voice; its hot-spot feature is cool, but there’s no word on whether it will cost extra. Basically, it’s the same old tech that we AT&T users have been enjoying for quite some time now.

All in all, there’s absolutely no reason for current iPhone users to envy Verizon’s offering. It’s the same old thing, with slightly reduced network capabilities.

Connect With Any Game Through the Xbox Kinect!

Released in November of 2010, the Xbox Kinect is the newest and latest video game platform released from Microsoft. The Kinect enables game users to interact with the Xbox 360 without any need to touch or use a game controller. Commands are given through using certain gestures, speaking, or with the presentation of certain objects. Players can now use their body to interact with games. New games released for the Kinect sensor allow gamers to have full control. Many have said that this is the new and improved competitor for the Wii MotionPlus for the Wii and also the Playstation Move for the Playstation 3.

The Kinect is a separate sensor piece that needs to be purchased separately from the Xbox 360. It features such technology as a depth sensor and RGB camera. This technology provides 3d motion capture, facial recognition, and voice recognition capabilities. The camera is able to pivot to follow the user and keep them in frame when they are moving. Another great plus to having the Kinect with the Xbox 360 is the ability to have a headset free chat over Xbox live since the sensor has the capability to conduct ambient noise suppression. No more fighting with the headset while in the middle of an intense multiplayer match on the Xbox live!

The Xbox Kinect is a great addition to the Xbox 360 family. It allows all types of gamers to have fun. Hardcore gamers to casual ones, the ability to play a video game controller free will be and can be fun and appealing.

The Price of Turning Your Verizon iPhone into a Mobile Hotspot

I guess the most exciting thing about the Verizon iPhone’s announcement this morning was the fact that you will be able to use your iPhone as a hotspot for up to 5 devices. This means you’ll be able to turn your Verizon iPhone into a hotspot and share your Internet connection with up to 5 devices around you.

Sounds great, right? It is great. Not so great is that the pricing information has been left aside and no one at Verizon deemed it necessary to let people know how much this great feature will cost…

iDB reader soccerkrzy left a comment on the blog with a link to Verizon’s pricing page for the mobile hotspot feature. According to their website, turning your iPhone into a hotspot will cost you an additional $20/month, including 2GB of data, with each additional GB priced at $20.

Yesterday, we reported that the rumor going around was that Verizon would offer an unlimited data plan for $30. This hasn’t been confirmed, neither has the cost of Mobile Hotspot. I guess we’ll find out sooner rather than later, but something tells me that if Verizon didn’t make a public announcement about the iPhone 4 pricing plan, it’s probably because it’s not as good as we’d hope.

Time will tell.
